Who are we?

Centre for Promotion of Inclusivity is an idea, a vision, a space for inclusive society. Students at Shivaji College come from diverse backgrounds and different regions, and they opt for different disciplinary studies. While curricula in certain disciplinary studies offer the scope for discussing social inequalities based on gender, sexualities, ethnicities, caste/religion, and so on, other studies seldom offer opportunities to discuss such issues due to curricular constraints. This centre, therefore, aims to provide a forum – outside the classroom – for deliberating on ideas and praxis that may promote social inclusion.

Purpose

“To create an inclusive society that over-rides the differences of race, gender, class, generation, geography, and ensures equal opportunities for all to achieve full potential in life, regardless of origin."

Students at Shivaji College come from diverse backgrounds and different regions, and they opt for different disciplinary studies. We aim to provide a forum to students outside the classroom for deliberating on ideas that may promote social inclusion. CFPI offers scope for discussing social inequalities based on gender, sexualities, ethnicities, caste/religion, and so on, which enable people’s active participation in their political, economic and social lives.

Vision

“A society for all” that promotes social integration, respects diversity, equality of opportunity and participation of all, including disadvantaged and vulnerable groups and persons.”

The CFPI envisions an inclusive society where every human being has equal opportunities and resources, and adequate capabilities to harness their potential, realize their rights and fulfil their responsibilities to live in fellowship, with dignity and liberty. To take a step ahead in making this universe a better place where no sort of factor other than humanity differentiates one from another.

Mission

sad-214977_1280.jpg

“To promote the socio-economic and cultural rights of socially excluded children and youth, through advocating for inclusive policies and provisions, promoting equitable outcomes and the realization of the rights of socially marginalised groups in our society.”

We assist and enhance learning that enables students to challenge and transform discriminating assumptions and knowledge constructions that undermine the democratic spirit of our country. We have commitment to promote full respect for human dignity and to achieve equality and equity among all. We make students aware about the social taboos that have forced them to feel that they are less than others and thus, to eradicate this narrow minded thinking.
